Urban Wetland Bird Walk

When:

Saturday, May 17, 2008
8:00 AM to 10:30 AM

Details:

You don't have to leave the city to enjoy nature!

Just west of the busy Eden Prairie center is a wetland that has become recognized for hosting several hard-to-find shorebirds, plus terns, ducks and songbirds and more during migration. Join us for a morning walk through the Purgatory Creek Recreation Area to witness this wildlife in its habitat.

The trail is mostly flat and offers some up-close opportunities to view many birds and other wetlands residents. We will loop around the wetland and continue to nearby Staring Lake to check for birds on the lake and in the surrounding woods. Bring comfortable shoes good for walking, water and a snack. Binocluars and field guides are useful, too. All ages welcome.

Rating: Easy

Directions:

Meet at the Purgatory Creek Recreation Area Pavillion, 13001 Technology Drive in Eden Prairie.

Take Higway 5 west from 494. Exit at Prairie Center Drive, the first exit after 494, and then turn right (south) at the stoplight. You will see the Purgatory Creek Recreation Area pavillion on the right, at the south intersection of Technology Drive and Prairie Center Drive. Plenty of free on-site parking is available.
